Super Visa
A super visa is for parents and grandparents of Canadian Citizens and Permanent residents that allows them to reside in Canada for 5 years at a time with a possibility of a 2-year extension upon the expiry of the initial validity period.
It’s a visa that provides multiple entries for a period up to 10 years.
As a super visa holder, you need to renew or maintain your health insurance while in Canada and on re-entry. Also, you need to make sure your passport is valid while you’re in Canada.
How long you can stay
A Super Visa allows for parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for up to 5 years at a time without having to renew their status as against the regular 6-month duration of a visitor visa.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a super visa, you must have a sponsor who:
- is your child or grandchild of at least 18 years of age and lives in Canada
- meets the minimum necessary income as Low Income cut-off (LICO)
- signs a letter of invitation that includes financial support commitment and income as per family size.
The applicants must be outside Canada to apply for Super Visa. All applicants need to undergo a medical examination and should have health insurance policy valid for minimum of 1 year on date of entry and they need to renew or maintain your health insurance during your stay.
